Feigning happiness and wearing a mask for outsiders is exhausting

Yesterday, one of this country’s most promising actors took his own life.Tragically, he succumbed to depression. His escape from an existence of overwhelming internal pain and despair. On the surface he had everything going for him;talent, looks and the respect of his peers but these attributes masked the agony he was hiding.Another sad statistic who could see no reason to carry on.

Depression cannot be explained to anyone who has not experienced its on going torture- there is no other word for it.For some, finding a reason to endure another day is an on going battle and regardless of the new medications available, this inner fight between life and death is constant. Feigning happiness and wearing a mask for outsiders is exhausting and some sufferers find that they have not the energy to continue with the masquerade.

I hope that some good will come from this brilliant young man’s tragic and premature demise; that his celebrity will focus attention on this widespread problem and create an awareness of mental illness.
