Only minutes ago I received a call from my daughter who is terribly upset because she and her housemates have been given 60 days to vacate their rented house. They moved into the house in May this year and took a 12 month lease but they were advised by the landlord that she will be moving back to the house herself, as she has been transferred with her work and needs accommodation closer to her place of employment. This is a massive blow to the girls and especially Prue my daughter who has enough going on in her life right now to be concerned about finding a new place to live. It is such a shame as this present house isΒ  perfect for them and took months to locate.

My daughter is going to contact the tenants tribunal tomorrow to check the legalities of  the notice to vacate, but from the information she has already obtained, it appears that if the landlord wants to shift back in to the property, the notice is binding. 😦

  1. Unfortunately these things happen, hope your daughter finds another place just as suitable

  2. Hi Adam,
Thanks for you kind words. Unfortunately, things like this do happen but life must go on. Perhaps they will find something even better next time πŸ™‚
    Best wishes

  3. I’m sure she’ll find something better and hopefully a little cheaper too. I’ve added you to my blogroll Maureen, hope you don’t mind.
    Cheers for now

  5. Hi Maureen,
That’s a tough break for your daughter. I find it increasingly difficult to find a decent place to live. My present aptmt. took 4 months to find, after moving to a new area. Spent a fortune on temporary weekly rentals in the mean time. Seems peculiar that the law would favor an owner’s (possibly whimsical) choice to move back in over the contract. You could see how in a necessity the law would favor the owner. They might consider any major relocation such as that a necessary one. –James

  6. Hi James,
Thanks for your empathetic comment. The news certainly came out of the blue and you are right about finding a financially viable replacement. Rent as you well know is exorbitant in the current climate and there is plenty of competition out there looking for accommodation too. That’s the way it goes and I am sure she will find something. I know what this means though, mama involved in another shift, packing and unpacking πŸ™‚
